Essert-Romand – Les Places – Authentic Alpine Chalet Dating from 1800

Discover this traditional alpine chalet located in Les Places, within the exceptional setting of the Graydon cirque, at the foot of Roc d’Enfer.

A true journey through time, this chalet, nestled at an altitude of 1,268 metres and rebuilt in 1800, has retained all of its authenticity and remains in a remarkable state of preservation.

The chalet is semi-detached on one side, and its original layout has been preserved: a living room, a bedroom, a cheese cellar, a cowshed, and a vast attic with generous ceiling height beneath the roof structure.

Water and electricity networks are available just a few metres from the property, offering excellent potential for future development.

Many original features remain in place, including the folding table, feeding troughs, traditional copper cauldrons, built-in beds and, most notably, its private oratory housing a statue of the Virgin Mary alongside a coin traditionally believed to protect the chalet from misfortune.

The property has belonged to the same family since the earliest known records dating back to 1610. Following a fire between 1796 and 1797, the chalet was rebuilt in 1800 in the form in which it stands today. It was later passed down to the current owner by his grandmother on his 18th birthday.
